NEW YEAR SPECIAL

PO BOX 410/MARGATE/KENT/CT9 3RB/ENGLAND/UK
Email: street_voice@fsmail.net

Steve DIY Profile/Punk Globe Profile/Kerri Taylor Profile

Hey did you all have a great Xmas? Mine weren't too bad though I did spend most of Xmas Day throwing up due to drinking for most of the UK and Europe too! Still while you lot were stuffing yourselves I was unstuffing myself! Well that's my excuse anyway! 2006 is almost with us and I for one can't wait until tonight as we're having a party so I guess another excuse to throw more alcohol down my neck. Why don't we do this shit more often? Anyway There's some great stuff to be looking out for throughout 2006 as the DUEL, FABULOUS DISASTER and the KOWALKSIS all should have new realeases out. After hearing most of the songs to go on these recordings by the Duel and The Kowalksis then you're going to be in for a treat. I can't wait until the finished products come out.

On this note I'd better thank a few people. Firstly Michelle for putting up with me. All the bands and individuals that have been featured in Street Voice and done interviews for FFRUK/Punk Globe. All the labels that continually support the projects I work for. Tara Rez at FFRUK. Ginger and Tammy at Punk Globe. All the people I've met this year including Kitty, Leticia, Peyvand, Mandii and Quita. To all the people that I communicate with with on a daily basis and finally to you for reading this and supporting FFRUK and Punk Globe. Cheers.

Have A Great New Year.

Steve DIY.

Hello all and welcome back. I hope everyone is snuggled in warm and toasty or toasted depending on your preference. So, the end of another year and the beginning of a new. Ahhhh! I do so love New Years. I am a big believer in the "out with the old and in with the new" adage that comes along with it. I say we make 2006 a year to remember. Love yourselves, love your friends and family. Show support for those that are worthy and have a hand in the disintegration of those that are not! Give the politicians hell and give your friends a break! I raise my glass and toast to a year of good friends, good fortune and good movement in the coming year. See ya'll next year!

Kerri Taylor.

NEW TO THE STREET VOICE TEAM

RACHEL ZILLA

The Gorgeous Rachel Zilla will be writing a monthly column in Street Voice throughout 2006. I first bumped into her on line around 2003 then met her in London where her band 'Broadzilla' blew me away. We've been writing to each other for ages and with Rachels sense of adventure and humour I just had to get her on board writing for Street Voice. No doubt 2006 will be the year Street Voice gets busted for indecency with Rachel involved but that can only be a good thing right?!!

MARY

I bumped in to Mary a few weeks ago on the net. By the way she's the one with the devil horns in the photo. Claims to be a 100 yrs of age so I'll be pressing her for that secret formula for staying young! Born in Japan this Old School Punker was raised in San Fransico and has travelled all over. She'll be pointing bands in my direction as well as supplying photos(Check out the one of Mr Nancy) as well as writing gig reviews. If you ever want to know what's in your stars this is the lady to contact. In her own words these are the people who Mary would like to check out.

"Radical thinkers, subversive, transgressive, people who like to shake shit up(fuck shit up).Open-minded, forward-thinking,eco-conscious,politically left of center, further left and anarchists, radicals, feminists, gender queers.Tattoo and body modification enthusiasts.Pagans,Neo Pagans,Wiccans, Buddhists those with Earth based spiritualities and anyone with an alternative God/dess belief system.Passionate free thinkers, those who are unafraid to be authentic and genuine and without pretentions. Conscious Dreamers who believe in magic and possilities People who love, Art, Music, Literature, Poetry and Life. Rock-n Rollers, Punk Rockers, Rock me baby!!!"

A welcome addition to the team.

VIX THE UNPOET

Then there's Vix. A top lady with a wicked sense of humour and very socially aware. Just recently put a proposition to me that she and Kerri(Co-Editor - Street Voice) would fuck each other in front of me with a strap on if I got a band radio air play. How could I resist?!! I couldn't! Fun person who I'm sure will bring some cool stuff to Street Voice. In her own words this is what she says about herself.

"Born into the era of Hippies, I grew up with the punks. Thumbing my nose at society my whole life. I loathe violence, but welcome confrontation. I am a paradox. Born without the filter that edits my thought, I speak before thinking. I get into a lot of trouble. I was a street kid with no formal education. I was orphaned when I was young, and robbed of my trust fund when I turned 18. I moved to Hollywood California in 1976. When everyone else was finding God, I found punk and Joe Strummer, John Doe, Perry Ferrell, Exene and Wendy O.

I was in the middle of it, got lost in it. Turned to drugs. Got off drugs. Now I write. Im opinionated, so I have a lot to say. I will occasionally piss you off. Its ok really. I can take it.

Nigel Deans says of Vix:

Vix the UnPoet never actually arrived on the scene, so much as she grew up a part of the scene. Left without parents at an early age she took the flame of social rebellion from her father and plunged into the chaos of the post 60's underworld. She was right there, living in a small apartment in Hollywood when the heavy boots of the punk scene first marched into the nightclubs and of course, bought her a drink. For the next 30 years, Vix continued to drive her life like Cruela DeVille drives her car, crashing through the chambers of subculture laughing at the fakes and adoring the real. A conversation with Vix is always colorful and despite her caustic wit and striking non-conformist personality, she is as warm and giving as the sun. As long as your'e not some narcissistic asshole, you'll get along with her just fine."

TX TERRI BOMB

It's been a busy year for TX Terri and I hope I get to catch up with her in 2006 and finally meet get to meet her. Probably one of the best and hardest working Rock N Roll artists I've ever had the pleasure of hearing. I know people who have been more than impressed with her live shows. If you get the chance do check out this cool lady and she will leave you feeling very impressed. Well Terri I hope things go well for you in 2006. If it's one person who deserves to be more noticed in 2006 it's you. I'll be catching up with TX terri at the end of January 2006 with a full interview and an exclusive newsletter dedicated to her. I'll also be asking her to dig in to her photo archive for images throughout her career. Watch this space.

RUBEE TUESDAY/WEBSITE

The rather hot Rubee Tuesday is 40 years of age and has so much to say on a wide range of issues. Having read many of her topics that she's discussed I wanted to feature her in Street Voice as she is a top lady. Apart from being in to BDSM Rubee has also done Porn and Fetish shoots and I also believe she does dancing too. In her own words this is what Rubee Says about herself:

"I love to debate, learn, and talk about important issues. I'm also very interested in social work and social policies.. So therefore, if you really want to know more about what makes me tick, i suggest you take a trip to my debate, feminist, democrat, sex worker, or various other groups Im involved in. The best way to become my friend is join one of my groups and engage me in conversation there. May goddess bless you!!!!"

I ran an interview with Rubee and it can be found on either FFRUK/PUNK GLOBE.

MOSTROS

"Mostros es la conexion argentina/mallorca de punk and roll.Born in 2000, Mostros emerged from the swamp only to fuck up your headphones. Three years after their last work, Mostros attacks again with 14 tracks of pure punk rock (and roll!) Recorded by Javi Vegas at Chango Records, the new creature - feed the rockin soul - is released through Mostrosown label, FlyingPeluca Records, in cooperation with Cry Out Records, AC Records, Grita O Muere, Punkaway, Sr Pinkerton, Punkenfermo and Bugul. Ready to feed your rockin soul, motherfucker? Cd on sale now at flyingpeluca@yahoo.com and themostros@yahoo.com So keep an eye out, the Mallorca Motherfuckers will do it again and this time theres no coming back."

These really are a great band. I've played their album a lot and enjoyed it that much I sent Macky an interview. Here's what she had to on FFRUK/PUNK GLOBE.

MY DOLL

My Doll are a fucking great band featuring Drea Doll from THE DAMES in the line up. In their short period of forming they've played some high profile gigs with the likes of the 'Exploited' and 'Total Chaos'. Added to their line up is Nessa their drummer who is only ages 15 but can hit them drums with the best of them. Soon to have a 10 track out album out. Watch out for this band!

CONFLICT

News on the Conflict front is their label Mortarhate Records are now working with Cherry Red Records which in turn will see more Anarcho bands being featured in Street Voice. This is great news for Conflict/Mortarhate as Cherry Red are the nuts when it comes to independent music. They've got some cool releases coming out in 2006. I'm looking forward to the new Lost Cherrees album.

On a sad note for Conflict is the tax man has been chasing them and their vocalist Colin Jerwood for unpaid tax over several years. How the tax man has come to the figure they arrived at has even shocked the band.

Conflict as a band have plenty on next year with gigs and releases through Mortarhate/Cherry Red so please do pop along to the site and support them.

DARREN DEICIDE

"Born on Halloween and raised in the blues and rock n' roll rich environment of Chicago was Darren Deicide. Always a fixture on the independent music scene, Darren Deicide ultimately rambled his way to New Jersey. There he initiated Ever Reviled Records, a worker-owned and run record label that releases counter-cultural music, and was the vocalist/guitarist for the politically-charged, underground radical rock band Hopeless Dregs of Humanity. As Hopeless Dregs of Humanity came to its demise, from its remnants emerged Darren Deicide armed with a guitar, trademark snarling vocals, a stomping foot, and a sense of whiskey-fueled righteousness. All of this combined with his unique, self-taught playing style has Darren Deicide now delivering a contemporary brand of roots-influenced rock that was described in one review as "John Lee Hooker meets Johnny Rotten". Like his own multi-cultural background, his music is an eclectic hybrid of blues, boogie, spoken word, and even punk, but the music is still undeniably rock n' roll fit as the soundtrack of any house party. Recently, Darren has taken on the name "Darren Deicide" to replace the old moniker of "Darren 'Deicide' Kramer". Rockin til the Apocalypse, his debut CD, is released on Ever Reviled Records under the name "Darren 'Deicide' Kramer". Besides maintaining a continuous touring schedule, Temptation and the Taboo, Part 1, his second full-length release, is going to be released in the winter of 2005/2006 on Ever Reviled Records. There are also plans for a live album in the distant future."

Darren is a great guy and very politically aware too. The interview I have just run with him can be found on either FFRUK/PUNK GLOBE.

QUEER RAMBLINGS

"Queer Ramblings Magazine is a sassy writing, art and music magazine people who lead a queer lifestyle. I started this magazine because of the abundant talent in our queer community that often goes unrecognized due to limited amounts of paper publications that will feature queer-themed creativity.

Queer Ramblings is becoming even more fabulous thanks to all of the support and encouragement from queers like you!

In order to expand, Queer Ramblings went on hiatus for a couple in 2004 and returned as a full-color glossy magazines hitting newsstands and mailboxes quarterly.

Queer Ramblings started as a black and white photocopied zine back in the winter of 2000. Little 'ol Queer Ramblings that I self-consciously put together one snowy day has grown and grown. It has been my honor to bring you over 40 issues in the last four years.

The very first issue was six pages long and I handed it out at queer events to anyone who would take one. This was hard for me because I'm quite people-shy, but there I was, yelling, "free lesbian zine!" I was thrilled when anyone took one.

The first issues were filled with only my writing. I'm one of the few writers that can say that everything I write gets published , I was no publishing genius, so I just sat at the computer and taught myself the publishing program that came with the computer.

I posted flyers everywhere I could and slowly people started submitting their material. I took one of the very first issues to Amazon Books Coop in Minneapolis and after chickening out several times I approached the counter and asked if they'd consider carrying it. The cute dyke behind the counter said she'd ask the manager and call me.

I felt like I'd won the Nobel Prize when they called and said they'd like to carry it. I began to prepare my acceptance speech, "I'd like to thank all of the little people"

Four years and forty issues later, Queer Ramblings has grown considerably and will continue to grow until it takes over the world!"

In 2006 I'm going to try and run an email interview with Sandra R Garcia the founder and editor of this magazine.

MR NANCY/CHARM SCHOOL DROP OUTS

I first came across Mr Nancy when she was playing bass for FABULOUS DISASTER and along with Lynda Mandolyn they did the first of 3 interviews I have run with that band. With Fabulous Disaster Mr Nancy toured North America and Europe and put out a couple of high profile albums through 'Fat Wreck Chord Records'. For a while it was dodgy for Mr Nancy as she became very ill and I believe this is the time she left Fabulous Disaster. Well nothing can hold this great lady down and she's back playing bass for the Charm School Drop Outs and still as cool as ever.

I caught up with Mr Nancy last week and run this interview which can be found on either FFRUK/PUNK GLOBE.

Justice in the United States Legal System...Oxymoronic?

The recent execution of Tookie Williams has once again opened the flood gates to a wide assortment of debate with regard to the United States Capital Punishment Legislature. The States have long been associated with this particular form of justice. Over time we have gone from stake-burning, to lynching to electrocution, gas or lethal injection. In spite of the obvious humanitarian concerns regarding the death penalty it has a wide range of support and most states are highly conservative with carrying out this sentence. Still, the debate; the moral question continues as states like Texas continue to abuse the right of the state to execute inmates.

As of April 1, 2005 there are 3,399 men and 53 women serving time on Death Row. Since 1976 there have been 976 executions. Since 1976 the State of Texas has executed 355 inmates making them the majority leader. California has a high number of inmates on death row, approx 648, but has only performed approx 13 executions since 1976. Virginia has executed 94, Oklahoma 79, Missouri 66 with the rest of the States falling behind these figures. New York seems to be one of the few heavily-populated states in which the death penalty is not active.

THE AGITATOR

At the above site you will find current, constantly-updated information regarding a man named Cory Maye who shot and subsequently killed a police officer during a late night raid of his home. Maye was tried and convicted of the murder and given a death sentence in spite of the grossly overlooked details of his case.

The gentleman in question is a black man living in a bad neighborhood; paying rent, for half of the duplex in which he lived, to an accused drug dealer-the man whom authorities were looking for when they raided the building. He also faced a nearly all-white juryin the state of Mississippi. Ron Jones, the officer killed wasnt just any officer but the Chief of Polices son. Ironically, Mr. Jones, an officer with the police department whose anonymous informant led to the raid, was not a member of the unit and should not have been active in the raid. If proper protocol had been followed, Ron Jones would not have been at the scene and thus would not have been gunned down.

The questions regarding this case many; most states in the country have laws that protect a citizens right to defend themselves against intruders. The evidence in the case clearly gives enough reasonable doubt to believe that Mayes shot to protect his daughter and himself. Still, amazingly but not surprisingly the man still sits on death row. It seems that there is more than enough evidence to have supported nothing more than a manslaughter charge if anything.

I feel for the families, friends and fellow officers of the officer who was killed. I do. However, I don't think that the young man meant to take the life of a white cop. Why aren't cops more aggressive about introducing themselves like they are on television? Had these officers been screaming 'POLICE' like they do on TV would the officer still be alive? Would that child still have a father? Would our judicial system have one less man awaiting lethal injection?

This case is especially unnerving when you take into account the fact that the man had a perfectly clean record prior to this incident and aside from the butt of a joint, there were no drugs found on his premises; though the cops were raiding the place on suspicion of distribution. His daughter now lives without a father; possibly with the knowledge that he will rot on death row or die at the hands of a government that was supposed to be protecting them, because of a late-night, forced-entry raid that had little to do with him. He was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Ironically, law enforcement officers on the other side of the barrel do not receive the same injustice and scrutiny. On September 13, 2000 in Modesto California, Local police officers and federal drug enforcement agencies raided the home of the Sepulveda family on a tip that Moises Sepulveda was involved in a methamphetamine ring.

The raid occurred a little after six a.m. as Mr. Sepulveda was getting ready for work. Officers busted through the door and ordered all three children and both parents to the ground. The raid turned to tragedy when 11 year old Albert Sepulveda was shot in the back of the head while lying prone on the ground as instructed by officers. A three month investigation ensued. During this time Officer David Hawn, a 21 year veteran of the police force and the man responsible for the death of the young man was put on leave pending an outcome.

At the conclusion of the investigation the shooting was found to be accidental discharge of a weapon and Officer Hawn was returned to duty, in spite of an investigation of the same man approximately a year prior; for another accidental shooting in which the Officer was also cleared of any wrong doing.

My first question is what was the Officers loaded, police issue weapon doing trained on an unarmed 11 year old childs head in the first place? My second question is why wasnt the officer charged with something CRIMINAL in this case? Murder is still murder, badge or not. A civilian can be charged with involuntary manslaughter for an accident and serve jail time but an officer gets a 3 month vacation for accidentally shooting a child in the back of the head?

Police Officers are supposed to protect the innocent and punish the guilty. In quite a few cases officers dont always act appropriately when raiding a residence. The body count of innocent people in the war on drugs is rising at an astronomical rate. This alone is sad but its made worse by the lack of reform in these departments, the lack of attention and legal action in these cases and the serious lack of regulations with regard to these activities. If an eye-for-an-eye is our countrys stance on justice it should be so across the board. Whether you are rich or poor, white or black, Government or civilian; if you take a life, we will take yours. Otherwise, the only just thing to do would be to abolish Capital Punishment altogether.

MISTRESS CRYSTAL

"I am one of nearly fifty thousand American women who began life with male genitals. Ever since the surgery that gave me a beautiful, functional vagina, I have been legally female. I no longer consider myself transsexual or any other kind of transgender, but since there are those who get hung up on history I mention it up front. Those who look beyond my past will get to know the intelligent, loving, giving, fun and exciting woman that I have always been. Those who can't -- it's your loss as well as mine. "

I caught up with Crystal and interviewed her about her life style and you can read what she had to say either on FFRUK/PUNK GLOBE.

BLACK VELVET MAGAZINE

Black Velvet was for me the most consistent magazine in 2005 both quality and publication wise. While most magazines of this nature and quality are put out by large publication companies this is not the case with Black Velvet. It's put out by Shari who puts this all together in her own home - Much of her time is taken up with the magazine. When she's not putting together the magazine you can find her at a show interviewing or/and taking photos of bands. Not only this but Shari is also a Vegan and an Animal Rights Activist who's dedication to this great cause has to be admired. She is a very cool person and very compassionate. For a review of the latest publication she has put out please go HERE.

MISTRESS XENA/WEBSITE

She is a skilled dominant based in Chicago and words that best describe her are "Dominant, Sadistic, Seductive, Perverted, EVIL, Playful, Erotic, Wicked, Charming, Elegant, Naughty, Fun, Witty, Sarcastic. Yet Someone to talk to, Caring, Friendly, Sweet, Experimental, Down-To-Earth, Open-Minded & Outgoing." Xenas fetishes include "Latex / Rubber Attire, Boots (Especially Thigh/Crotch High) & Corsets." Turn ons include "Latex/Rubber Clothing, Boots (Especially Thigh High Boots), Pretty Boys, 'Goth' Men (you know, the vampyre-lookin' dudes), Receiving Massages and Foreplay. Her Turn offs include "MEN WITH NO BALLS, Frap Boys, Trixie Bimbos, Racists, Jocks, Pretentious Fuckers, Posers, Terrible Grooming & Hygiene, Ignorant & Conceited Individuals."

I asked Mistress Xena if she'd like to run an interview and was quite happy to do so. Here's what this cool lady has to say for herself/ Please view the interview on either FFRUK/PUNK GLOBE.

THE NIGHTCRAWLERS

Personally I think Cheryl Ossola has the best legs in Punk Rock but even better is her guitar playing. Along with fellow band member and guitarist Dave Marriot they were my fave guitarists in 2005. I really enjoyed their debut album 'ANGEL ALLEY' where the review can be found HERE. I also had the pleasure of interviewing this band in 2005 and that interview can be found HERE. Great band and great people. A band you must really look out for in 2006. They come highly recommended.

WEBSITE

"The Independent Gay Forum has been created by a group of gay writers, academics, attorneys, and activists who feel dissatisfied with the current level of discussion of gay-related issues.

We support the full inclusion of gays and lesbians in civil society with legal equality and equal social respect. We argue that gays and lesbians, in turn, contribute to the creativity, robustness, and decency of our national life.

We share a belief in the fundamental virtues of the American system and its traditions of individual liberty, personal moral autonomy and responsibility, and equality before the law. We believe those traditions depend on the institutions of a market economy, free discussion, and limited government.

We deny "conservative" claims that gays and lesbians pose any threat to social morality or the political order.

We equally oppose "progressive" claims that gays should support radical social change or restructuring of society.

We share an approach, but we disagree on many particulars. We include libertarians, limited-government conservatives, moderates, and classical liberals. We hold differing views on the role of government, personal morality, religious faith, and personal relationships. We share these disagreements openly: we hope that readers will find them interesting and thought-provoking."

RYAN MUDD AND THE STUFF

Ryan Mudd and the Stuff.. you can stick it--stick it where you hide your old Jam , The Damned and X albums. A convicted punk band if ever there were one. Ryan's philosophy is you can have it. Take it all. The phones been disconnected, theres an eviction notice on the door. He doesn't care. He has no time for work or bills, he's got a fucking album to finish and everyone can just piss off.

Recently signed with SOS records, these boys are about to blow up outta the IE and into the hearts of every fan of the genre. The passion for the art is back, and its leaving everyone premature ejacualting for more. Ryan Mudd on vocals, the songwriter. Leader of the band who can sit comfortably by and let someone else take the helm of the interview. Casey Chaos the youngest member of the band, writes the music and plays guitar. Whip smart witty when prodded. Victor Franco picks up on drums and can bang at em better than most. The prodigal misfit/geek in High School, has matured into a heavy hitting self confidant drummer. Fabiano rounds it all off with a Greek God kind of charisma. All of them posses a great sense of humor and are conspiracy theorists.

Wrapping up a self titled debut album, with 20 songs. 3 Years in the making. Release date is set for March 2006. As unrealistic as it sounds , these guys are still in need of management and a booking agent.

The Jams influence can be heard on my particular favorite "Chief of Police." This song has attached itself to my brain like an old love letter.

Casey and Ryan both spoke of the next record. Its going to blended with new sounds, with different venues.

Ryan quote: Cant wait to take our run for Europe. Im going to do this for as long as I live. Take heed and listen to the lyrics, sometimes its so easy to lose yourself in the beat. We want to teach you to listen to educate, to not be sheep..........do not follow. Be a shepard. All of the band members follow this sentiment. They want to say something, and I, for one, am listening.

Its the soundtrack in your ipod as you slip a new clip in your uzi.

I walk away, shaking my head , after talking to these boys. Its like meeting Johnny Rotten at age 12, you just know something brilliant is about to happen.

MUDLARKS

The Mudlarks are a wicked Italian Punk Rock band and one band I do really hope to catch up with them in 2006. After hearing an album and EP they sent me earlier this year I grew really attached to their sound. They formed in 2001 and in 2004 the Mudlarks managed to tour California and have played with bands like the Dickies, Lurkers and Vibrators. Top band. I have run an interview with was answered by Ale. This can be viewed either on FFRUK/PUNK GLOBE.

NICOLA

I recently checked Nicola and her band out. Despite having a slightly commercial sound her voice is amazing. Influences include Tracey Chapman, Tori Amos, Ani DiFranco, Melissa Etheridge, Pearl Jam, Incubus, Sting and Tracy Bonham. Musically This is Alternative Rock and you can't get much better than Nicola and her band. I was sent a copy of Nicolas album to review and that review can be found on FFRUK and PUNK GLOBE. I really feel honoured to be reviewing this lady and her band and I don't say that lightly. There is a star in the making here and she's even got a great taste in underwear!!!!

I was really into this band when they around in the 80's and picked their stuff up from a certain German Label who changed alliegances to the dark side. Fish their guitarist has set up THUNK RECORDS and with it has released plenty of Skeptix Material. The studio review can be found HERE. The live reviews can be found HERE.

BUDDIE ANNE COPE

I bumped into Ann on My Space. I didn't realise she was Polish - Even though there were Polish words on her profile I didn't pick up on it. Anyway she's been in the UK for 2 months and has started gigging. Her music kinda reminds me of a raw PJ Harvey. Once I get a promo cd from Ann I'll be running an interview in 2006 with her. Go and check her out - I enjoyed and you should too!

SUGAR

I came across Sugar when they were advertising their band in a Punk Rock Forum. To be honest I wasn't expecting much but I give most bands a listen and I was that impressed I'll be running a full interview with them in 2006. They will also have a full feature in Street Voice. Please do check them out. They fucking Rock and a band who really do deserve to have plenty of attention thrown at them in 2006.

Lil D of Sugar - One of the best female vocalists I heard in 2005.

"We are two Queer Girls in NYC who are totally still trying to get started in the scene, and we totally operate as DIY artists. We currently are working on recording a demo..."

I've had a listen to this duo and they remind me a lot of early Riot Grrrl artists. Once I recieve their promo CD there will be a full interview with them.

My Space Profile/Punk Globe Profile

Hey Peeps hasn't this year flown? Damn it's flew by that fast I'm sat here wondering where it's gone? I've also been interviewed and this interview can be found HERE It covers everything from music to sexuality to politics and well worth a read.

Notice the new logo? It's well cool isn't it? Rachel Zilla from BROADZILLA designed it. Thanks for that Rachel. Next time you're in London there'll be a huge drink waiting for you at the bar!

Oh yeah don't forget to go veggie this xmas. There's plenty of recipes HERE.

FFRUK and PUNK GLOBE continue to be updated on an almost daily basis. Please do pop along and support these sites.

I'd like to welcome Kerri Taylor on board - She's going to be writing articles and her first one is featured in this newsletter. There will be more writers coming on board in 2006. The more the merrier. In her own words this is how she describes herself.

"A brooding, 25 year old, gender-bending slacker survivin' in the US. Among other things I am a writer, an artist, a musician, a caffeine junkie, a conspiracy theorist, a geek, a philosopher, an activist, a lesbian, a friend, a nympho and a woman. The state of the world makes me angry but the enlightenment of the few gives me hope. I believe in freedom of speech, the power of music and friendship and the responsibility to be ourselves. I aspire to "suck all the marrow of life" and make a difference I can be proud to leave our children. I write because language moves me."

DRONGO'S FOR EUROPE

Well what can I say about the Drongo's that hasn't been said already? They've well impressed me with their recent album 'HOTLINE TO HADES' and after recently seeing them live I can safely say these are the best Punk band the UK has to offer. A full interview will be run with these guys in the New Year. To check out the review of their album please go HERE.

REMEMBERING BIANCA

It's coming up to 4 years now since Bianca Halstead was tragically killed in a car accident. While many artists such as Dee Dee, Joey and Johnny(The Ramones), Joe Strummer(The Clash) and Sid Vicious(The Sex Pistols) are remembered we must also not forget Bianca 'Butthole' Halstead the Vocalist/Bassist for Betty Blowtorch. For me she was certainly up their with the likes of Joan Jett and Debbie Harry and there isn't a day where I don't listen to Betty Blowtorch. They're always on my MP3 player when I'm out cycling or doing other stuff. To me they were the ultimate Rock N Roll band - Just listen to 'Are You Man Enough'. I'm glad I discovered Betty Blowtorch as Bianca's vocals just blew me away - She is one of the few people I'd love to have met. On December 17th I'll be remembering Bianca as like the artists I mentioned earlier she will never be forgotten and doesn't deserve to be forgotten either.

R.I.P. Bianca.

CHERRY RED RECORDS

"The first ever DVD to feature one of the great UK punk bands of all time – The Subhumans. Subhumans are one of the most successful bands to emerge from the anarcho-punk scene in the UK from 1980-85. Alongside Conflict, Crass, etc, their angered, intelligent lyrics and music are far more diverse than most punk bands, their attitude was self-searching and strongly D.I.Y; their 5 albums, 6 EP’s and numerous cassettes were released on their own Bluurg Records label.
Highly influenced by the Sex Pistols at the outset of their career, the band was formed in 1980. The Subhumans mixed standard Pistols thrash with moody, textured pieces and the occasional reggae/ska number. Although the group disbanded in the mid-1980’s, three of the members continued to work together in the highly successful band Citizen Fish.

The band reformed to undertake a nationwide tour of the U.S. in 2003, and “All Gone Live” features a full-length show from that tour, alongside some unique home-movie style footage shot by band as the tour progressed.

Amongst the tracks included are UK independent chart top-twenty hits “Parasites”, “Society”, “Human Error”, “Big City” and “Rats”.

For full review of this DVD please go HERE.

FIRE BUG

"Fire Bug creates something new and wonderful the way a splash of vermouth and a couple of olives adds a new dimension to a shot of vodka. Forged in the storied Wicker Park section of Chicago by vocalist Juliette Tworsey and guitarist Jules Shapiro, they began cutting their musical teeth in and around local Chicago venues including The Elbo Room, Subterranean, and The Double Door. They decided to make their way out to Los Angeles to hook up with the incredible talents of L.A. natives drummer Ty Dennis and bassist Ian Solomon. Since arriving in Los Angeles, Fire Bug has become a part of the essential club scene with performances at Viper Room, The Roxy, Troubadour, The Echo, Spaceland, The King King, Galaxy Concert Theatre, and others. Fire Bug has also made it's way out to NYC with shows at the infamous CBGB'S. Fire Bug even found a niche playing unplugged sets at alternative L.A. venues like Mr. T's Bowl. That's a 180 degree turn-around from the wall-of-sound generated during the band's more typical appearances, but crossing boundaries is emblematic of Fire Bug. Whatever the venue, you can expect an energetic and charismatic show. Juliette's wide, large eyes gaze out at the audience. She stomps and bounds across the stage, singing with a voice that jumps around as much as she does. Her bright red ponytails get in on the action and bounce up and down, like Pippi Longstocking meets PJ Harvey and that's only the way things look. The sound is even harder to pin down. Each song is stamped with their own unique signature and given the fact that this is an age when terms like "progressive", "alternative" and "new" have become commodities, Fire Bug's sound is never 'pigeon-holed' and is constantly evolving. Juliette's voice is quirky and distinct and her vocals are an ever-evolving crafted combination of high and low, slow and fast. Delicately gentle one moment and fiercely aggressive the next. Like the man once said, "Too much of everything is just enough!" Jules plays a guitar evocative of the Delta Blues with occasionally bizarre chord progressions and a touch of hard rock thrown in for good measure, like a Granny adding a bottle of moonshine to her fruitcake. Suddenly everybody wants another slice. Bassist Ian Solomon and Ty Dennis on drums keeps the glue together. Taken independently, there are songs in the band's repertoire which could be classified as blues, grunge and even psychedelic. This is the classic scenario of the whole being greater than the sum of the parts. In the final analysis, Fire Bug is out to establish a new game and people want to hear what all the noise is about."

I love Fire Bug and a band well worth looking out for. I reviewed their 'End Of The World' EP which can be found HERE. I just recently interviewed them too and that interview can be found HERE.

MOLLY HEARTBREAKER

As promised I've run a full interview with the gorgeous Molly Heartbreaker. In the interview we chat about when she started posing naked, her tattoos, her stripping and her love for alternative music. It was great running this interview as she is one of the coolest people I've had the pleasure of meeting on the net. To view the interview please go HERE

SUICIDE BID

Suicide Bid are made up of members from several bands including King Prawn, The Filaments and PAIN and they have produced one kick ass album which everyone involved from the band to the Household Name Records can be proud of. The Dub influence in their sound is the icing on the cake for me - In fact it's that good I've hardly stopped playing it since the day I got it through the post. What is also good is the fact they've written some excellent socially aware lyrics - Nothing negative either! Suicide Bid are going to be one of the bands that puts UK Punk well and truly back on the map. To read the review please go HERE. I interviewed them a short while back - This interview can be found HERE. To buy the album please go HERE.

TARA REZ

Tara Rez as most of you probably know by know is the song writer and vocalist for THE DUEL. She is also the owner of FFRUK. A really beautiful and talented lady who has so much energy and focuses on love rather than hate. You really do never know what's going to happen when you hit the town with Tara. The one and only gripe I'll ever have with her is her apalling time keeping - I think in the 20 months I've known her she's only been on time once! If you haven't checked out her band or her site please feel free. Anyway here's to many more years hanging out with Tara. Here's an INTERVIEW I ran with her earlier on this year. I must also give a mention about the album The Duel have recorded - This should see the light of day in 2006 and is well worth looking out for. Tara will also be making an appearance as Guest Vocalist on a couple of Liberty tracks which should also see the light of day in 2006. Watch this space for more details. A bit of late news in is The Duel are supporting Slaughter + The Dogs on the 6th December at The Underworld in Camden/London.

BDSM...huh?

BDSM is an acronym for Bondage-Discipline, Domination-Submission and Sadism-Masochism. The implications of these terms seem fairly obvious but can be entirely misleading and are often times misinterpreted. Truthfully, the specifics could be translated in so many different ways that I could be writing for days just on their complexities. So, without being too generalizing--in terms of vanilla relations (vanilla- meaning non-lifestyle, because these practices are lifestyles unto themselves) they mean whatever you want them to mean. If you like the idea of your partner tying you to the bed and having their way with you-you are engaging in bondage and possibly in a power dynamic not unlike that found in a Dominant-Submissive relationship. If you enjoy a good smack on the ass during intercourse that isn't as different from a sado-masochistic encounter as you'd like to believe. But let me break it down a little.

First, I would like to state for the record that in almost all arrangements inside these lifestyles and/or practices all parties involved SHOULD have three things in common. Trust, communication and consent! All three are VITAL to these practices. If you don't trust the person you're engaging in these activities with and if you cannot communicate honestly with each other-or--you have not consented to the activities taking place--it has the potential to be extremely dangerous, if not fatal. Anyone who knows anything about these ideas will tell you the same. After all, would you really want someone having power over you that you couldn't trust to use it wisely and with your best interests in mind? That being said...

Bondage-Discipline: Bondage refers to the use of rope, chains, and cuffs--anything that limits mobility. The idea is to be rendered (or to render) into a state of helplessness which can lend a very erotic pleasure to the act of fornication. I mean, orgasm is the epitomy of "letting go". Being helpless to stop the onslaught of pleasure can be very liberating and exciting. Discipline, in a vanilla setting is most likely used in role-play. You know, dirty catholic girl and daddy...or whatever. In terms of lifestyle, it is most often a companion to Dominant-Submissive relationships but can, in some instances, stand on it's own or in conjuction with any of the other practices. The idea is complex and hard to put into words but basically the disciplinee wants to be corrected, reprimanded etc... they want to be punished for doing something wrong. I heard the best story based on this idea years ago.

I was talking to a woman about this particular practice one day after she admitted to being a practitioner and she very plainly put it to me like this: it used to be, when she did something that hurt or upset her husband, he'd get mad-blow up-and they'd fight. Sometimes the fights would go on for days. It was horrible. Then they went to therapy and the therapist asked if they had ever considered alternatives to the fighting. She gave them some terms to look up and one of them was BDSM most specifically she wanted them to look into the discipline practices. At first it was wierd and sometimes they chose to fight instead but after a while it just became their only way of dealing. Instead of fighting and all the guilt and frustration that came with it; when he'd get upset about something they'd sit down and discuss precisely what he wanted to make him feel better about the situation. She'd take the punishment which usually ended in wild make-up sex anyway and all was forgiven. His temperament had never gone to that horrible place since and sometimes she even got to turn the tables on him.

Domination-Submission: The trickiest of the terms due to its complexities and society's overall views on "equality" in a relationship. To simplify it a bit this involves a power exchange. The submissive person(s) gives the Dominant(s) person control over themselves in one sense or another. In vanilla relations--one partner takes the role of aggressor (dominant) and one takes on the role of the submissive. This dynamic is quite familiar in most sexual relations anyhow but in this case, the power exchange is acknowledged on a conscious level. It is usually in this exchange that "dirty talk", kinky actions and flat out hormone-driven fucking like bunnies takes place.

In a lifestyle sense--the Dominant partner takes control of any and/or ALL aspects of the submissives life. For these people--it goes way beyond sex. This isn't to say that the submissive partner is treated like a lowly human being or an animal although there are alternative lifestylers that engage willingly in humilation as part of their submission. This simply means that the submissive partner has made a consious decision to give this control to her Dominant partner with the understanding that the partner can be trusted to guide them with love, understanding and responsibility. The submissive partner believes that the Dominant partner is fully capable of making decisions that are in the submissives best interest. This releases the submissive from making those decisions for themselves. This arrangement is called 24/7 Total Power Exchange. Notably, this exchange is where the "collar" comes from and yes, quite literally, the Dominant partner places a collar (or something symbolizing a collar) around the neck of their submissive partner. There are 2 very beautiful ceremonies regarding this particular ritual.

Dom-sub relationships can borrow practices and actions from Bondage-Discipline and Sadism-Masochism or it can exist without those practices...but where's the kink in that?!! LOL. It is a lifestyle all its own (and probably the most complex) due to the magnitude and impact of the power exchange involved. The important thing to remember about this type of relationships is that both parties CHOSE their roles. The submissive negotiates and agrees to her position and her lose of power. It is not taken.

That kind of situation is something else entirely.

Sadism-Masochism: probably the most mis-understood and highly criticized practices in the entire acronym. Whenever these words are mentioned people almost automatically get the imagery of leather daddies/momma's wielding whips and canes and implimenting various torture techniques on some poor schmuck. Okay these things do exist in this particular lifestyle. However, the Sadist is not some evil hellian on a rampage pummelling some poor unsuspecting creature for no reason. The Sadist (top) is engaging in an activity that the masochist (bottom) openly wants. Consider this: Scientist or should I say psychologists and behavioral analysts have proven that there is a very blurred line between pleasure and pain; both are incredibly intense. Add one to the other in a consentual environment that's twice the intensity at one time. For example; if someone were to walk by and pull your hair-it would hurt however, if your partner were to pull your hair during intercourse it probably wouldn't bother you and in some cases it could even heighten the experience. Biting is another great example. You are more apt to enjoy a painful nibble during the act of sex than outside that act.

The tools of this trade are more aptly what causes alarm. Whips...gasp...paddles...oh my! Rest assured! If the sadist has any clue what they're doing these tools are used with extreme caution and control; to maximize the experience for both their bottom and themselves. Sure a whip sounds pretty serious but I've heard the adrenaline rush is amazing. Personally, I could ignore most of the tools but some I find rather intriguing. A few I find incredibly fucking hot for instance, the flail. The professionally made (not the cheap-break-on-the-first-try kind) ones are composed of long strips of leather, rubber, latex, etc, (my preference is deer hide) that is braided into a handle and then the remaining length provides the tails. Imagine 12-36 leather strips, 12-18 inches long, flung with perfect accuracy down your back. I get wet just thinking about how that leather would feel against my skin.

Now, the Sado-Masochistic scenario does not necessarily require sex. Yes, both partners get off on what they are doing but that does not mean that they have to engage in sexual activities. The same could be said for any of these practices really. They are not bound to sex and can all stand intact on their own without either partner engaging in any form of sexual activity. The acts themselves create their own forms of pleasure for some. I know that may be a bit to wrap your head around but it's true. In fact, most professional Dominatrix' or Dominants (male) do NOT engage in sexual activities with their clients. They simply give them the treatment that they ask for.

Tragically, society has force-fed its public notions that folks who participate in this type of behavior are not only sexual deviants but social deviants as well. They are freaks-abnormal and psychologically ill. In fact at one time these behaviors were considered psychotic by mental health care professionals.

However, I would like to draw some attention to the positive aspects of these relationships. While the rest of us flounder through our relationships without any concept of how to ask for what we want/need from our partners, these people are very clear and concise from the get-go. In Dominant and Submissive relationships especially there is often a contract by both parties detailing the ins and out, do's and don't of the relationship. In sometimes graphic detail these partners spell out in no uncertain terms what they desire and expect from their partners. The results are healthy, long-lasting relationships with an astonishing amount of trust and intimacy. Sounds pretty deviant, eh?

FABULOUS DISASTER

Lynda Mandolyn is one of the founding members of Fabulous Disaster and currently is their front person. Previously to that she was a member of 'Inside Out' a female trio who played wicked Punk Rock. With Fabulous Disaster Lynda has toured the USA/Europe extensively and put out two albums through 'Fat Wreck Chord' records. Aside from playing in my fave American Punk Rock N Roll band Lynda is also an artist. Her work can be found HERE. As you can see from the photo Lynda is really photogenic - A well cool lady who I love to bits.

SILENT MEOW

You know sometimes you'll always come across a band/individual you want to work with and one of them for me is Silvie Pussycat. While many bands and individuals border on arrogance Silvie is so cool. I decided to run an interview with her about all the bands she has played in and her current band 'Silent Meow'. I also asked if she's like a British Fanzine writer warpped up for Xmas - Find her answer HERE.

THE KOWALSKIS

Kitty is the founder of The Kowalskis and has recorded a kick ass album which should see the light of day in 2006. From the tracks I've heard this album is the tops. I really enjoyed it. This woman is well travelled and is currently residing in Sweden for the time being taking in travelling all over Europe at weekends. She also writes for the awesome website 'Cool Grrrls' which her column can be found HERE. This woman is the coolest to hang out with and always seems to have a camera in her hand!! Ginger Coyote ran an interview with Kitty earlier on this year. This can be found HERE.

KATHY X

Kathy X are a Rockabilly band based in Germany. Kathy is actually from the UK but relocated to Germany as she got pissed off with living here - Not that I blame her of course! I bumped in to the drummer on My Space and they sent me over their album 'Ready For Anything'. This review can be found HERE. I also ran an interview with Kathy which can be found HERE.

CHERRY RED RECORDS

"This is a long awaited release from a session that all the fans knew existed, but has been unreleased for 17 years. Not only is this the first time these tracks have been available on CD, but it's the first time that the whole collection has been put together as one complete album.
The Frantic Flintstones are still one of the psychobilly’s scene's best loved bands. After a 3 year break, the band have decided to hit the road again, so this should help promote all of our Frantic Flintstone releases."

For review of this album please go HERE

THE VALENTINES

The Valentines 'Life Stinks' album has been one of my fave albums this year. It's pure Punk Rock N Roll and what's more it's produced by Daniel Rey(The Ramones). To check out the review please go HERE. I also have had the pleasure of interviewing them. This interview can be found HERE. These really are a band worth investigating.

CRIMINAL IQ RECORDS

Criminal IQ is a Chicago based Punk Rock label which was out together by Darius who I presume is on self imposed exile from the great shores of Britian. Over the past year or so I've had the pleasure on reviewing so of their releases and in most cases I've been impressed. Criminal IQ is one of the better labels I've had dealings with and well worth checking out. Though seriously they have put out some ace stuff especially the Manhandlers album. Go on - Go and have a look. Treat yourself to some proper Punk Rock! For the latest release please click HERE for the review. The only gripe I have with Darius is his poor taste in football teams - Spurs - I did laugh when he told me. Here's proof he supports the worst footie team in London.

STRIKER

"Striker are based in south london playin indie/punky stuff with a drummer from sicily, singer from manchester, bassist from japan and london guitarist playin music because we like it,we like playin live ,a bit passionate, emotional no messin!playin around london and manchester, liverpool, bath and a festival in spain.listen to the tunes and make ya own mind up!"

The Review of their latest promo can be found HERE. An interview will be sent to these mega quick and hopefully be featured in the New Years Eve edition - Yes I do put this out every New Year.

FRANKI'S BROKEN TOYS

I've been chatting to Franki Mattson(Cool Grrrls/Ex Boobie Trap) for ages on the net now. By the time I get their demo I'll be an old man. Her band are made up of ex members of Betty Blowtorch, China White and Cell Block 5. From what I've heard so far they've got a pretty cool future ahead of them. To read Franki's column on Cool Grrrls please go HERE.

POINT COUNTER POINT

The last band to be featured in the Xmas Edition of Street Voice is 'Point Counter Point' who are a DC Style band from Margate. They formed in 2002 and now have a solid line up. We've had the pleasure of seeing this band play around 4 times and they've never really failed to impress. I've worked with John and that's how I found out about the band. They're good lads who are on the lookout for gigs - Give them a listen and more importantly give them a gig!

XMAS MESSAGES

"ok... well i hate xmas - a time when the disfunctial parts of ur family life stare u in the face - friends are our new family and xmas is another reason not to have to work and tho the commercial machine exploits this time at least we get some time off from slavin reality .. so enjoy be happy, get pissed get laid - wotever u fancy ... and i think most important of all - tell the people that mean the most to you - how u feel about them - u never kno - u might not get the chance to again... happy xmas? it could be xxxx" TARA REZ(The Duel/FFRUK)

"Seasons Beatings From Fabulous Disaster"!! :) xoxo

"Happy Holidays from the good old USA. Where our President makes us loathe ourselves. What a holiday season it will be. Tis the season. The city ornaments are up and the need to purchase has begun. Its Christmas time in America. I reflect on the American dream. To be free, to purchase your own home. Property values have more than tripled locally in the last four years alone. Im in the Mortgage buisness and if you dont earn more than $150,000 a year, you're not buying in Southern California. Long gone are the days of surf and sun. You need 2 full time jobs and a shitload of roomates. Forget the husband or wife, you will need to go communal now. America. Home of the brave? Is this why our soliders are being slaughtered in Iraq? A war 60% of the population does not agree with? I was in the original 30% who opposed this war. The anti-war movement is gaining speed and attention. Bush is no longer being given a Carte Blanche to do whatever it is he does. Being from Texas Im assuming its hunting. He has made it clear he likes the kill.
The no child left behind act included a stipulation that all teens names and numbers be alloted to the Armed Forces. They have aquired cel phone numbers as well of these teenagers and the pressure is on to enlist. Feed the war machine.

My holiday wish? That Tony and Georgie get it together and admit fault. Bring the troops home where they belong. How many more flag draped bodies are we going to unload?
Some have said that punk came out of anger and rebellion. We are more justified than ever now. We've grown, we have families, we have jobs. Its our duty to educate our young. Have them question authority and push the envelope. I want us, to come together and sit our children down and tell them that evil sometimes looks like Tony and George. Tell them that no one has a right to tell them who to marry. That no one should tell them what to do with thier bodies. Tell them that a free society is a lie. We are all caged in the corruption, that is our government.

I'm going to download some Rancid now. It always makes me feel better."

Happy Holidays from the US of A.

"Season's Beatings and Holiday Pisses To All......." Ginger Coyote(Punk Globe/White Trash Debutantes)

"So what you all doing over Xmas? We'll probably get wasted a few times, have a few early nights and visit freinds and family. Probably not doing a lot but what the fuck that is what xmas is all about eh? Anyway while we're drinking, fucking and having fun please spare a few moments thinking about the less fortunate on this planet. Remember while we're all having fun there's many people out there starving, cold and homeless in this world. Maybe you could help the local homeless by ging them food parcels - It needn't be much. Now if every reader of this newsletter takes part in this then there'll be many many smiles from people who thought no one gave a toss about them. You needn't spend much - It's the thought that counts right." Steve DIY (FFRUK/Street Voice/Punk Globe)

"In light of the holiday season and the end of another year allow me to plant the seed of hope for a better tomorrow. Let's give the bad-boys in power a rude awakening. No, I don't mean violent terrorism, let's use the power of our voices united to incite a world-wide overhaul of all the ism's and liars that control and degrade our existence. Let's demolish the thrones and replace them with seats. Let's stop the lies and put an end to the oppression of "society" and its rules. Let's expand minds, put an end to phobias and enjoy madness. Let's end the wars and put a stop to violence. Let's dance because the moment moves us, fuck because we appreciate the act of love and enjoy a full, hearty laugh often. Let's band together and make 2006 the year that the public, on a global scale, would settle for no less than POSTIVE CHANGE". Kerri Taylor(Street Voice)

"After losing the father that I did not see for 29 years earlier this year, I realised that we often don't tell those people we value that they why they important to us. My father died with many regrets for the words he did not say, so my message is this: Live each day and make sure that those around you know how you feel and why. Words are free, though sometimes hard, but can have a huge impact. Regret things you did, not those that you couldn't or wouldn't do. Love to all those who know they are important to me. x " Michelle

A few years back, I came up with a universal holiday greeting for all my American friends – Happy RamaKwaaNukahMas. I got all the major religions in there, so I thought.. Many people all over the world
celebrate at this time in accordance to their own faith, customs and culture. I looked around this year and seem to notice more murder, mayhem, terror and strife based on racial, ethnic, cultural and religious differences. Can't we all just get along? Look around and see how many different kinds of folks have enjoyment and goodwill of the season in common. A few years ago, I started practicing yoga around the holidays, and they follow something called lovingkindness. It's not causing harm to any other person or being and really trying to love your brothers and sisters, letting go of all attachment and aversion. I send this message to all of you with lovingkindness for the holiday season. What's so funny about Peace Love and Understanding? I hope you have a holiday and a 2006 that is full of it, and for the rest of the world as well. Live and let live.
