My Space Profile/Punk Globe Profile

Hey Peeps hasn't this year flown? Damn it's flew by that fast I'm sat here wondering where it's gone? I've also been interviewed and this interview can be found HERE It covers everything from music to sexuality to politics and well worth a read.

Notice the new logo? It's well cool isn't it? Rachel Zilla from BROADZILLA designed it. Thanks for that Rachel. Next time you're in London there'll be a huge drink waiting for you at the bar!

Oh yeah don't forget to go veggie this xmas. There's plenty of recipes HERE.

FFRUK and PUNK GLOBE continue to be updated on an almost daily basis. Please do pop along and support these sites.

I'd like to welcome Kerri Taylor on board - She's going to be writing articles and her first one is featured in this newsletter. There will be more writers coming on board in 2006. The more the merrier. In her own words this is how she describes herself.

"A brooding, 25 year old, gender-bending slacker survivin' in the US. Among other things I am a writer, an artist, a musician, a caffeine junkie, a conspiracy theorist, a geek, a philosopher, an activist, a lesbian, a friend, a nympho and a woman. The state of the world makes me angry but the enlightenment of the few gives me hope. I believe in freedom of speech, the power of music and friendship and the responsibility to be ourselves. I aspire to "suck all the marrow of life" and make a difference I can be proud to leave our children. I write because language moves me."

DRONGO'S FOR EUROPE

Well what can I say about the Drongo's that hasn't been said already? They've well impressed me with their recent album 'HOTLINE TO HADES' and after recently seeing them live I can safely say these are the best Punk band the UK has to offer. A full interview will be run with these guys in the New Year. To check out the review of their album please go HERE.

REMEMBERING BIANCA

It's coming up to 4 years now since Bianca Halstead was tragically killed in a car accident. While many artists such as Dee Dee, Joey and Johnny(The Ramones), Joe Strummer(The Clash) and Sid Vicious(The Sex Pistols) are remembered we must also not forget Bianca 'Butthole' Halstead the Vocalist/Bassist for Betty Blowtorch. For me she was certainly up their with the likes of Joan Jett and Debbie Harry and there isn't a day where I don't listen to Betty Blowtorch. They're always on my MP3 player when I'm out cycling or doing other stuff. To me they were the ultimate Rock N Roll band - Just listen to 'Are You Man Enough'. I'm glad I discovered Betty Blowtorch as Bianca's vocals just blew me away - She is one of the few people I'd love to have met. On December 17th I'll be remembering Bianca as like the artists I mentioned earlier she will never be forgotten and doesn't deserve to be forgotten either.

R.I.P. Bianca.

CHERRY RED RECORDS

"The first ever DVD to feature one of the great UK punk bands of all time – The Subhumans. Subhumans are one of the most successful bands to emerge from the anarcho-punk scene in the UK from 1980-85. Alongside Conflict, Crass, etc, their angered, intelligent lyrics and music are far more diverse than most punk bands, their attitude was self-searching and strongly D.I.Y; their 5 albums, 6 EP’s and numerous cassettes were released on their own Bluurg Records label.
Highly influenced by the Sex Pistols at the outset of their career, the band was formed in 1980. The Subhumans mixed standard Pistols thrash with moody, textured pieces and the occasional reggae/ska number. Although the group disbanded in the mid-1980’s, three of the members continued to work together in the highly successful band Citizen Fish.

The band reformed to undertake a nationwide tour of the U.S. in 2003, and “All Gone Live” features a full-length show from that tour, alongside some unique home-movie style footage shot by band as the tour progressed.

Amongst the tracks included are UK independent chart top-twenty hits “Parasites”, “Society”, “Human Error”, “Big City” and “Rats”.

For full review of this DVD please go HERE.

FIRE BUG

"Fire Bug creates something new and wonderful the way a splash of vermouth and a couple of olives adds a new dimension to a shot of vodka. Forged in the storied Wicker Park section of Chicago by vocalist Juliette Tworsey and guitarist Jules Shapiro, they began cutting their musical teeth in and around local Chicago venues including The Elbo Room, Subterranean, and The Double Door. They decided to make their way out to Los Angeles to hook up with the incredible talents of L.A. natives drummer Ty Dennis and bassist Ian Solomon. Since arriving in Los Angeles, Fire Bug has become a part of the essential club scene with performances at Viper Room, The Roxy, Troubadour, The Echo, Spaceland, The King King, Galaxy Concert Theatre, and others. Fire Bug has also made it's way out to NYC with shows at the infamous CBGB'S. Fire Bug even found a niche playing unplugged sets at alternative L.A. venues like Mr. T's Bowl. That's a 180 degree turn-around from the wall-of-sound generated during the band's more typical appearances, but crossing boundaries is emblematic of Fire Bug. Whatever the venue, you can expect an energetic and charismatic show. Juliette's wide, large eyes gaze out at the audience. She stomps and bounds across the stage, singing with a voice that jumps around as much as she does. Her bright red ponytails get in on the action and bounce up and down, like Pippi Longstocking meets PJ Harvey and that's only the way things look. The sound is even harder to pin down. Each song is stamped with their own unique signature and given the fact that this is an age when terms like "progressive", "alternative" and "new" have become commodities, Fire Bug's sound is never 'pigeon-holed' and is constantly evolving. Juliette's voice is quirky and distinct and her vocals are an ever-evolving crafted combination of high and low, slow and fast. Delicately gentle one moment and fiercely aggressive the next. Like the man once said, "Too much of everything is just enough!" Jules plays a guitar evocative of the Delta Blues with occasionally bizarre chord progressions and a touch of hard rock thrown in for good measure, like a Granny adding a bottle of moonshine to her fruitcake. Suddenly everybody wants another slice. Bassist Ian Solomon and Ty Dennis on drums keeps the glue together. Taken independently, there are songs in the band's repertoire which could be classified as blues, grunge and even psychedelic. This is the classic scenario of the whole being greater than the sum of the parts. In the final analysis, Fire Bug is out to establish a new game and people want to hear what all the noise is about."

I love Fire Bug and a band well worth looking out for. I reviewed their 'End Of The World' EP which can be found HERE. I just recently interviewed them too and that interview can be found HERE.

MOLLY HEARTBREAKER

As promised I've run a full interview with the gorgeous Molly Heartbreaker. In the interview we chat about when she started posing naked, her tattoos, her stripping and her love for alternative music. It was great running this interview as she is one of the coolest people I've had the pleasure of meeting on the net. To view the interview please go HERE

SUICIDE BID

Suicide Bid are made up of members from several bands including King Prawn, The Filaments and PAIN and they have produced one kick ass album which everyone involved from the band to the Household Name Records can be proud of. The Dub influence in their sound is the icing on the cake for me - In fact it's that good I've hardly stopped playing it since the day I got it through the post. What is also good is the fact they've written some excellent socially aware lyrics - Nothing negative either! Suicide Bid are going to be one of the bands that puts UK Punk well and truly back on the map. To read the review please go HERE. I interviewed them a short while back - This interview can be found HERE. To buy the album please go HERE.

TARA REZ

Tara Rez as most of you probably know by know is the song writer and vocalist for THE DUEL. She is also the owner of FFRUK. A really beautiful and talented lady who has so much energy and focuses on love rather than hate. You really do never know what's going to happen when you hit the town with Tara. The one and only gripe I'll ever have with her is her apalling time keeping - I think in the 20 months I've known her she's only been on time once! If you haven't checked out her band or her site please feel free. Anyway here's to many more years hanging out with Tara. Here's an INTERVIEW I ran with her earlier on this year. I must also give a mention about the album The Duel have recorded - This should see the light of day in 2006 and is well worth looking out for. Tara will also be making an appearance as Guest Vocalist on a couple of Liberty tracks which should also see the light of day in 2006. Watch this space for more details. A bit of late news in is The Duel are supporting Slaughter + The Dogs on the 6th December at The Underworld in Camden/London.

BDSM...huh?

BDSM is an acronym for Bondage-Discipline, Domination-Submission and Sadism-Masochism. The implications of these terms seem fairly obvious but can be entirely misleading and are often times misinterpreted. Truthfully, the specifics could be translated in so many different ways that I could be writing for days just on their complexities. So, without being too generalizing--in terms of vanilla relations (vanilla- meaning non-lifestyle, because these practices are lifestyles unto themselves) they mean whatever you want them to mean. If you like the idea of your partner tying you to the bed and having their way with you-you are engaging in bondage and possibly in a power dynamic not unlike that found in a Dominant-Submissive relationship. If you enjoy a good smack on the ass during intercourse that isn't as different from a sado-masochistic encounter as you'd like to believe. But let me break it down a little.

First, I would like to state for the record that in almost all arrangements inside these lifestyles and/or practices all parties involved SHOULD have three things in common. Trust, communication and consent! All three are VITAL to these practices. If you don't trust the person you're engaging in these activities with and if you cannot communicate honestly with each other-or--you have not consented to the activities taking place--it has the potential to be extremely dangerous, if not fatal. Anyone who knows anything about these ideas will tell you the same. After all, would you really want someone having power over you that you couldn't trust to use it wisely and with your best interests in mind? That being said...

Bondage-Discipline: Bondage refers to the use of rope, chains, and cuffs--anything that limits mobility. The idea is to be rendered (or to render) into a state of helplessness which can lend a very erotic pleasure to the act of fornication. I mean, orgasm is the epitomy of "letting go". Being helpless to stop the onslaught of pleasure can be very liberating and exciting. Discipline, in a vanilla setting is most likely used in role-play. You know, dirty catholic girl and daddy...or whatever. In terms of lifestyle, it is most often a companion to Dominant-Submissive relationships but can, in some instances, stand on it's own or in conjuction with any of the other practices. The idea is complex and hard to put into words but basically the disciplinee wants to be corrected, reprimanded etc... they want to be punished for doing something wrong. I heard the best story based on this idea years ago.

I was talking to a woman about this particular practice one day after she admitted to being a practitioner and she very plainly put it to me like this: it used to be, when she did something that hurt or upset her husband, he'd get mad-blow up-and they'd fight. Sometimes the fights would go on for days. It was horrible. Then they went to therapy and the therapist asked if they had ever considered alternatives to the fighting. She gave them some terms to look up and one of them was BDSM most specifically she wanted them to look into the discipline practices. At first it was wierd and sometimes they chose to fight instead but after a while it just became their only way of dealing. Instead of fighting and all the guilt and frustration that came with it; when he'd get upset about something they'd sit down and discuss precisely what he wanted to make him feel better about the situation. She'd take the punishment which usually ended in wild make-up sex anyway and all was forgiven. His temperament had never gone to that horrible place since and sometimes she even got to turn the tables on him.

Domination-Submission: The trickiest of the terms due to its complexities and society's overall views on "equality" in a relationship. To simplify it a bit this involves a power exchange. The submissive person(s) gives the Dominant(s) person control over themselves in one sense or another. In vanilla relations--one partner takes the role of aggressor (dominant) and one takes on the role of the submissive. This dynamic is quite familiar in most sexual relations anyhow but in this case, the power exchange is acknowledged on a conscious level. It is usually in this exchange that "dirty talk", kinky actions and flat out hormone-driven fucking like bunnies takes place.

In a lifestyle sense--the Dominant partner takes control of any and/or ALL aspects of the submissives life. For these people--it goes way beyond sex. This isn't to say that the submissive partner is treated like a lowly human being or an animal although there are alternative lifestylers that engage willingly in humilation as part of their submission. This simply means that the submissive partner has made a consious decision to give this control to her Dominant partner with the understanding that the partner can be trusted to guide them with love, understanding and responsibility. The submissive partner believes that the Dominant partner is fully capable of making decisions that are in the submissives best interest. This releases the submissive from making those decisions for themselves. This arrangement is called 24/7 Total Power Exchange. Notably, this exchange is where the "collar" comes from and yes, quite literally, the Dominant partner places a collar (or something symbolizing a collar) around the neck of their submissive partner. There are 2 very beautiful ceremonies regarding this particular ritual.

Dom-sub relationships can borrow practices and actions from Bondage-Discipline and Sadism-Masochism or it can exist without those practices...but where's the kink in that?!! LOL. It is a lifestyle all its own (and probably the most complex) due to the magnitude and impact of the power exchange involved. The important thing to remember about this type of relationships is that both parties CHOSE their roles. The submissive negotiates and agrees to her position and her lose of power. It is not taken.

That kind of situation is something else entirely.

Sadism-Masochism: probably the most mis-understood and highly criticized practices in the entire acronym. Whenever these words are mentioned people almost automatically get the imagery of leather daddies/momma's wielding whips and canes and implimenting various torture techniques on some poor schmuck. Okay these things do exist in this particular lifestyle. However, the Sadist is not some evil hellian on a rampage pummelling some poor unsuspecting creature for no reason. The Sadist (top) is engaging in an activity that the masochist (bottom) openly wants. Consider this: Scientist or should I say psychologists and behavioral analysts have proven that there is a very blurred line between pleasure and pain; both are incredibly intense. Add one to the other in a consentual environment that's twice the intensity at one time. For example; if someone were to walk by and pull your hair-it would hurt however, if your partner were to pull your hair during intercourse it probably wouldn't bother you and in some cases it could even heighten the experience. Biting is another great example. You are more apt to enjoy a painful nibble during the act of sex than outside that act.

The tools of this trade are more aptly what causes alarm. Whips...gasp...paddles...oh my! Rest assured! If the sadist has any clue what they're doing these tools are used with extreme caution and control; to maximize the experience for both their bottom and themselves. Sure a whip sounds pretty serious but I've heard the adrenaline rush is amazing. Personally, I could ignore most of the tools but some I find rather intriguing. A few I find incredibly fucking hot for instance, the flail. The professionally made (not the cheap-break-on-the-first-try kind) ones are composed of long strips of leather, rubber, latex, etc, (my preference is deer hide) that is braided into a handle and then the remaining length provides the tails. Imagine 12-36 leather strips, 12-18 inches long, flung with perfect accuracy down your back. I get wet just thinking about how that leather would feel against my skin.

Now, the Sado-Masochistic scenario does not necessarily require sex. Yes, both partners get off on what they are doing but that does not mean that they have to engage in sexual activities. The same could be said for any of these practices really. They are not bound to sex and can all stand intact on their own without either partner engaging in any form of sexual activity. The acts themselves create their own forms of pleasure for some. I know that may be a bit to wrap your head around but it's true. In fact, most professional Dominatrix' or Dominants (male) do NOT engage in sexual activities with their clients. They simply give them the treatment that they ask for.

Tragically, society has force-fed its public notions that folks who participate in this type of behavior are not only sexual deviants but social deviants as well. They are freaks-abnormal and psychologically ill. In fact at one time these behaviors were considered psychotic by mental health care professionals.

However, I would like to draw some attention to the positive aspects of these relationships. While the rest of us flounder through our relationships without any concept of how to ask for what we want/need from our partners, these people are very clear and concise from the get-go. In Dominant and Submissive relationships especially there is often a contract by both parties detailing the ins and out, do's and don't of the relationship. In sometimes graphic detail these partners spell out in no uncertain terms what they desire and expect from their partners. The results are healthy, long-lasting relationships with an astonishing amount of trust and intimacy. Sounds pretty deviant, eh?

FABULOUS DISASTER

Lynda Mandolyn is one of the founding members of Fabulous Disaster and currently is their front person. Previously to that she was a member of 'Inside Out' a female trio who played wicked Punk Rock. With Fabulous Disaster Lynda has toured the USA/Europe extensively and put out two albums through 'Fat Wreck Chord' records. Aside from playing in my fave American Punk Rock N Roll band Lynda is also an artist. Her work can be found HERE. As you can see from the photo Lynda is really photogenic - A well cool lady who I love to bits.

SILENT MEOW

You know sometimes you'll always come across a band/individual you want to work with and one of them for me is Silvie Pussycat. While many bands and individuals border on arrogance Silvie is so cool. I decided to run an interview with her about all the bands she has played in and her current band 'Silent Meow'. I also asked if she's like a British Fanzine writer warpped up for Xmas - Find her answer HERE.

THE KOWALSKIS

Kitty is the founder of The Kowalskis and has recorded a kick ass album which should see the light of day in 2006. From the tracks I've heard this album is the tops. I really enjoyed it. This woman is well travelled and is currently residing in Sweden for the time being taking in travelling all over Europe at weekends. She also writes for the awesome website 'Cool Grrrls' which her column can be found HERE. This woman is the coolest to hang out with and always seems to have a camera in her hand!! Ginger Coyote ran an interview with Kitty earlier on this year. This can be found HERE.

KATHY X

Kathy X are a Rockabilly band based in Germany. Kathy is actually from the UK but relocated to Germany as she got pissed off with living here - Not that I blame her of course! I bumped in to the drummer on My Space and they sent me over their album 'Ready For Anything'. This review can be found HERE. I also ran an interview with Kathy which can be found HERE.

CHERRY RED RECORDS

"This is a long awaited release from a session that all the fans knew existed, but has been unreleased for 17 years. Not only is this the first time these tracks have been available on CD, but it's the first time that the whole collection has been put together as one complete album.
The Frantic Flintstones are still one of the psychobilly’s scene's best loved bands. After a 3 year break, the band have decided to hit the road again, so this should help promote all of our Frantic Flintstone releases."

For review of this album please go HERE

THE VALENTINES

The Valentines 'Life Stinks' album has been one of my fave albums this year. It's pure Punk Rock N Roll and what's more it's produced by Daniel Rey(The Ramones). To check out the review please go HERE. I also have had the pleasure of interviewing them. This interview can be found HERE. These really are a band worth investigating.

CRIMINAL IQ RECORDS

Criminal IQ is a Chicago based Punk Rock label which was out together by Darius who I presume is on self imposed exile from the great shores of Britian. Over the past year or so I've had the pleasure on reviewing so of their releases and in most cases I've been impressed. Criminal IQ is one of the better labels I've had dealings with and well worth checking out. Though seriously they have put out some ace stuff especially the Manhandlers album. Go on - Go and have a look. Treat yourself to some proper Punk Rock! For the latest release please click HERE for the review. The only gripe I have with Darius is his poor taste in football teams - Spurs - I did laugh when he told me. Here's proof he supports the worst footie team in London.

STRIKER

"Striker are based in south london playin indie/punky stuff with a drummer from sicily, singer from manchester, bassist from japan and london guitarist playin music because we like it,we like playin live ,a bit passionate, emotional no messin!playin around london and manchester, liverpool, bath and a festival in spain.listen to the tunes and make ya own mind up!"

The Review of their latest promo can be found HERE. An interview will be sent to these mega quick and hopefully be featured in the New Years Eve edition - Yes I do put this out every New Year.

FRANKI'S BROKEN TOYS

I've been chatting to Franki Mattson(Cool Grrrls/Ex Boobie Trap) for ages on the net now. By the time I get their demo I'll be an old man. Her band are made up of ex members of Betty Blowtorch, China White and Cell Block 5. From what I've heard so far they've got a pretty cool future ahead of them. To read Franki's column on Cool Grrrls please go HERE.

POINT COUNTER POINT

The last band to be featured in the Xmas Edition of Street Voice is 'Point Counter Point' who are a DC Style band from Margate. They formed in 2002 and now have a solid line up. We've had the pleasure of seeing this band play around 4 times and they've never really failed to impress. I've worked with John and that's how I found out about the band. They're good lads who are on the lookout for gigs - Give them a listen and more importantly give them a gig!

XMAS MESSAGES

"ok... well i hate xmas - a time when the disfunctial parts of ur family life stare u in the face - friends are our new family and xmas is another reason not to have to work and tho the commercial machine exploits this time at least we get some time off from slavin reality .. so enjoy be happy, get pissed get laid - wotever u fancy ... and i think most important of all - tell the people that mean the most to you - how u feel about them - u never kno - u might not get the chance to again... happy xmas? it could be xxxx" TARA REZ(The Duel/FFRUK)

"Seasons Beatings From Fabulous Disaster"!! :) xoxo

"Happy Holidays from the good old USA. Where our President makes us loathe ourselves. What a holiday season it will be. Tis the season. The city ornaments are up and the need to purchase has begun. Its Christmas time in America. I reflect on the American dream. To be free, to purchase your own home. Property values have more than tripled locally in the last four years alone. Im in the Mortgage buisness and if you dont earn more than $150,000 a year, you're not buying in Southern California. Long gone are the days of surf and sun. You need 2 full time jobs and a shitload of roomates. Forget the husband or wife, you will need to go communal now. America. Home of the brave? Is this why our soliders are being slaughtered in Iraq? A war 60% of the population does not agree with? I was in the original 30% who opposed this war. The anti-war movement is gaining speed and attention. Bush is no longer being given a Carte Blanche to do whatever it is he does. Being from Texas Im assuming its hunting. He has made it clear he likes the kill.
The no child left behind act included a stipulation that all teens names and numbers be alloted to the Armed Forces. They have aquired cel phone numbers as well of these teenagers and the pressure is on to enlist. Feed the war machine.

My holiday wish? That Tony and Georgie get it together and admit fault. Bring the troops home where they belong. How many more flag draped bodies are we going to unload?
Some have said that punk came out of anger and rebellion. We are more justified than ever now. We've grown, we have families, we have jobs. Its our duty to educate our young. Have them question authority and push the envelope. I want us, to come together and sit our children down and tell them that evil sometimes looks like Tony and George. Tell them that no one has a right to tell them who to marry. That no one should tell them what to do with thier bodies. Tell them that a free society is a lie. We are all caged in the corruption, that is our government.

I'm going to download some Rancid now. It always makes me feel better."

Happy Holidays from the US of A.

"Season's Beatings and Holiday Pisses To All......." Ginger Coyote(Punk Globe/White Trash Debutantes)

"So what you all doing over Xmas? We'll probably get wasted a few times, have a few early nights and visit freinds and family. Probably not doing a lot but what the fuck that is what xmas is all about eh? Anyway while we're drinking, fucking and having fun please spare a few moments thinking about the less fortunate on this planet. Remember while we're all having fun there's many people out there starving, cold and homeless in this world. Maybe you could help the local homeless by ging them food parcels - It needn't be much. Now if every reader of this newsletter takes part in this then there'll be many many smiles from people who thought no one gave a toss about them. You needn't spend much - It's the thought that counts right." Steve DIY (FFRUK/Street Voice/Punk Globe)

"In light of the holiday season and the end of another year allow me to plant the seed of hope for a better tomorrow. Let's give the bad-boys in power a rude awakening. No, I don't mean violent terrorism, let's use the power of our voices united to incite a world-wide overhaul of all the ism's and liars that control and degrade our existence. Let's demolish the thrones and replace them with seats. Let's stop the lies and put an end to the oppression of "society" and its rules. Let's expand minds, put an end to phobias and enjoy madness. Let's end the wars and put a stop to violence. Let's dance because the moment moves us, fuck because we appreciate the act of love and enjoy a full, hearty laugh often. Let's band together and make 2006 the year that the public, on a global scale, would settle for no less than POSTIVE CHANGE". Kerri Taylor(Street Voice)

"After losing the father that I did not see for 29 years earlier this year, I realised that we often don't tell those people we value that they why they important to us. My father died with many regrets for the words he did not say, so my message is this: Live each day and make sure that those around you know how you feel and why. Words are free, though sometimes hard, but can have a huge impact. Regret things you did, not those that you couldn't or wouldn't do. Love to all those who know they are important to me. x " Michelle

A few years back, I came up with a universal holiday greeting for all my American friends – Happy RamaKwaaNukahMas. I got all the major religions in there, so I thought.. Many people all over the world
celebrate at this time in accordance to their own faith, customs and culture. I looked around this year and seem to notice more murder, mayhem, terror and strife based on racial, ethnic, cultural and religious differences. Can't we all just get along? Look around and see how many different kinds of folks have enjoyment and goodwill of the season in common. A few years ago, I started practicing yoga around the holidays, and they follow something called lovingkindness. It's not causing harm to any other person or being and really trying to love your brothers and sisters, letting go of all attachment and aversion. I send this message to all of you with lovingkindness for the holiday season. What's so funny about Peace Love and Understanding? I hope you have a holiday and a 2006 that is full of it, and for the rest of the world as well. Live and let live.

Please keep sending in your releases or press packs for review on FFRUK and PUNK GLOBE. If I really like there's a guaranteed interview. Contact addy is:
